Saved – My Pointer Rescue Dog

Her 'private' bed.

I had lost my Black Lab, he out lived most at the ripe old age of 14. I waited a couple months to get over losing him, and decided to get another dog. I have great luck with "used" dogs.

I was surfing through the local Animal Control Center and found 2 pointers available. So, my sister and I went to check it out.

Well, there was the other pointer in a cage separate from the rest of the dogs. The other Pointer had been adopted out already. Then they told us that India had heart worms and was due for termination the next day.

My sis just couldn't let it happen, so we had to get her healthy. This little girl had been a street dog for awhile, but she had also been trained to hunt. 1st time a gun went off, so did she, man, can she run.

It was obvious that the owner had some 'harsh' treatment training her. But once we got her all cleaned up she's been sooo good. She still listens to one word commands, points, and goes into that hunter/killer mode when birds, squirrels, and cats are around. I just love her to death, I'm 64 so she should out live me.

So, here's a picture of 'Sweet Pea'.

Makes me want another Rescue Dog

by: Pat

Hey Tim,
Thanks for sharing your story. It makes me want to go get another dog!

We are "down to" 3 dogs at this point after losing our nearly 14 year old chocolate Lab two weeks ago. Burying our "Bailey dog" made for a very hard day. Never thought it would happen, but I just broke down at one point in the process.

Anyway, I'm so happy to hear about your new "used dog." I love that. Enjoy every minute!
Pat
