The American Kennel Club® (AKC) celebrated its 125th Anniversary in 2009 and tracks registration statistics on purebred dogs. The list below includes 167 AKC breeds for 2010.
For information on designer dogs, hybrid dogs, hypoallergenic dogs (like a Poodle, Shih-Tzu or Yorkshire Terrier) or other specialty breeds, visit our information pages dedicated exclusively to those breeds.

This alphabetical list of dog breeds includes only purebred dog breeds recognized by the American Kennel Club® (AKC). For information on designer dogs, hybrid dogs, hypoallergenic dogs and other mixed breeds, visit our information pages dedicated to those options.
The AKC also maintains a list of dog breeds considered purebred, but that are not currently registrable with the American Kennel Club. These dogs are accepted in AKC's Foundation Stock Service®.
